Peaches
We
have 9 different varieties of peach trees, ranging from those that will ripen
from late July through late August or early September. We grow (in order of
appearance) Early Red Haven, Red
Haven, Red Globe, Washington, Suncrest, Blake, Redskin, Monroe, and Gleason - a
variety of the much-loved Elberta.
I n 2005 we removed most of the oldest peach trees, which at age 35
(105 in peach years!) had become non-productive. We left a double row “hedge” of peach and cherry trees around the east
half of the orchard—what we now call our meadow!—and we are giving the
ground a chance to rest before we decide what to replant.
We still have 60 trees of nice fruit for you peach prospectors traveling
this way. |
