Irrigation Day
The irrigation pipe along the north end of the orchard sends Colorado
River irrigation water down each row of trees. We water for 24 hours
every three weeks. |
This is a view in 2001 from up in the 100-year old elm tree, looking east over
the peaches towards the Grand Mesa. |
 At the south end of the orchard, the irrigation water is channeled back
into the Price Ditch, where it goes on for reuse. The flowing water just
sparkles in the sunlight.Historic water rights
run with the property, dating back to the original homestead in 1894.
The orchard has ideal gradient for gravity irrigation.
The water is fed from a single-user headgate. |
